Casual conversion changes due to commence

Do you employ casual staff?

September 27 is the last day of the transitional period for employers (other than small business employers) to review existing casual employees and determine whether conversion to full-time or part-time work is required, as a result of recent changes to the Fair Work Act.

To be eligible for conversion, the casual employee must have worked with the business for 12 months, worked a regular pattern of hours on an ongoing basis in the prior 6 months, and would continue to work the hours as a full-time or part-time employee without significant changes.

Within 21 days of completing the review, the employer must make a written offer to convert the casual employee to permanent, or write to the employee explaining why they won't be making an offer (which must be done no later than 27 September).

Don't leave it until the last minute - make sure you are checking your obligations as soon as possible!
